REYYAN SOMUNCUOĞLU

REYYAN SOMUNCUOĞLU 
She was born in Istanbul in 1959. She graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Mimar Sinan University in 1984. Until 1999, she has served in art related positions such as Art Consultant, Art Director and Art Teacher. During that period, she used to design jewel crafts and also work with the vitray method of glass painting. In 2000, she completed Roger Mendez Print Workshop/ Cypress College as a valedictorian. In 2001, she participated in the Print courses of Golden West College/ LA.

Her works have been shown in numerous exhibitions and art fairs in Turkey  and  abroad. In 2004, she was granted “Woman of the Year” award by the American Biographical Institute/North Carolina.

She has been greatly inspired by the Ottoman Culture and especially the female figures of authority within the Ottoman Empire, which constitute the theme of her paintings.

She continues to work in her studio at Adile Sultan Palace and in her own atelier, both in Istanbul.
